Description:-

Shell solid, not pearly, laterally compressed and subrectangular, inequilateral, striate and twice as long as high. 25-33 low and flat ribs wider than interstices, granulated on the anterior part of left valve. Dark brown or blackish coarse, hairy periostracum present. Hinge area long and narrow with taxodont teeth. Small anteriorly directed umbones. Internal margins with crenulations corresponding with the external radial ribs. No byssal gape. Outside of shell whitish inner side white, with a greyish tinge towards periphery. Size: Maximum shell length 5 cm, commonly to 4 cm.

Cherian (1968) and Kripa (2005) have reported this species from Kerala coast.

Habitat:-

On sand and mud bottoms of littoral and sublittoral area of depth 25 m.
