Description:-

Length 30-34 cm, wing span around 60cm. Plumage: uniformly dark brown except lighter brown tail; head with whitish forehead merging into blue- or lavender-grey cap and below the eye, not distinct form lores. Bare parts: iris brown; relatively long thin bill black; feet and legs brownish black.

Remark:-

Feeds on small fish and squid. Gregarious and largely sedentary. Rare records from Kerala (Sashikumar et al., 2011).

Habitat:-

Pelagic; common in offshore waters.
